The third-year anniversary of the Michael Brown shooting will take place on August 9, 2017. This particular day led to the national protests in Ferguson, Missouri that took place back in August 2014. Many black citizens were outraged at the death of a young man named Michael Brown who was killed by a law enforcement officer named Darren Wilson. Before the outcome of this situation can be discussed; the protests that took place because of this event must be addressed. Police brutality and unfair treatment against minority people has always been a historical problem for members of the black community. That is nothing new. In modern times, the situation had started to reach an intolerable point again. Starting in 2012 with the shoot death of Treyvon Martin, many African American people began to speak out against the atrocities that have been leveled against black life by those in power.

While it is true that Treyvon Martin was killed by a white man named George Zimmerman who was not a cop; the fact that he was acquitted for his crime back in 2013 really angered a lot of people.

Zimmerman was a part of neighborhood watch organization and a wannabe police officer but he never made the force. This incident got the ball rolling with protests from black people that would eventually come to fruition during the Michael Brown incident.

George Soros is a major political funder within the United States. He supports liberal causes and he is also a democratic financier as well. Soros is a firm believer in open society’s. An open society is a social order or form of government that allows freedoms which gives peoples the right to oppose political parties that are in charge and to live life outside of the established norms. George Soros realized a long time ago that black people have always been marginalized within the U.S. and the world. He helped to fund the Ferguson protests as a means to give this generation of blacks a voice and a means to stand up against tyranny.

That is another right of an open society – the ability to protest against those in power when they do something wrong. This is one reason why he helped to fund the Ferguson protests. He knew that something was wrong and that he had the power to change this situation.

The outcome of the Ferguson situation has been presented by the grand jury. Darren Wilson has not been found guilty of any wrong doing. He is no longer on the police force. The Ferguson police department has been thoroughly investigated and incidents of wrongdoing by officers toward minorities have been brought to light. The Brown family has received an undisclosed settlement that is $3 million dollars or less. George Soros established the Open Society Foundations.

Activist groups that support the black community are still not happy about the outcome of this situation. While reform is taking place with the Ferguson police department and police officers are undergoing more intensive training with dealing with minorities; people still believe that another incident like this one is bound to happen sometime very soon.
